Handmade Glass Ribbon & Beads Ornaments Tutorial

ornament intro

This Christmas, as many of my sparkly fans already know, I had a first-ever pink tree purchased from Treetopia which I needed to decorate. As this tree was originally meant for a bead store which I have unfortunately not been able to open, I had chosen my jewelry brand colors of pink and blue. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of turquoise and blue decorations out there. I did decide to go frugal and make my own glass ornaments which I purchased 50% off at Hobby Lobby. I filled them with ribbon stash pieces, donated fake snow and irregularly shaped seed beads.

Please watch the video tutorial I made showing this simple crafty Christmas decoration idea.

Key things to remember in this common sense tutorial:

  • Use a funnel to insert fake snow and seed beads
  • Cut small pieces of ribbon so they fit inside lip of ornament
  • Putting flat glitter tape on a spherical ornament results in a crinkly design

You can use a host of materials to put inside these empty glass ornaments. You can even use paint pens to draw on the outside of them. Another paint idea is to put a few drops of acrylic paint or nail polish and then swirl it around the inside. You can include glitter, buttons, candy and just about anything you desire as long as it isn’t too heavy to hang.

I used between 10-12 inches of baker’s twine to create bows on the top of each ornament. I bought them in multi-color packages at the Dollar Tree. They lent an overall coordinated look to the various ribbon designs.

I enjoyed making these frugal ornaments, especially since I know they are unique to my brand. How to Make a Puffy Gift Bow for Any Occasion

I made a previous video tutorial on this topic, however, since the video angle was done at a time when I was still figuring out how to make YouTube videos…I thought I’d update with this colorful closeup version.

Most of my ribbon came from Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but I have tons in my stash. lol.

Previous bow tutorial:

I made several decorations in a pink and blue theme to match my handmade jewelry business theme this year. One of my ornaments was a blue gift box with a puffy snowflake bow in coordinating colors. It looks beautiful tucked into my Pretty in Pink Christmas tree from Treetopia. Although this is a strange color scheme for Christmas, it makes sense for my brand. Also, I can use the pink tree for other events if I desire, such as Valentine’s, Easter and baby showers.

Go check out my bow tutorial and please give me a thumb’s up at my YouTube channel if you like it, as that helps my revenue through Google Adsense. Many thanks and have a sparkly Christmas, y’all!

Handmade Christmas Decorations in Pink and Blue

cover_648x360Around Thanksgiving I put up our first Christmas tree since the move from AZ to TX. I never got to use the brand new tree I purchased before the move last year. So I decided this year would be a pink Christmas. Since my handmade jewelry business brand colors are pink and blue, I’d originally purchased the Pretty in Pink pre-lit Christmas tree from Treetopia with the intention of placing it in my new bead store. Alas, the shop has not come to fruition and 2015 has been a rough one for little progress in my sparkle biz.

With help from The Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby and my very own overflowing craft closet…I decorated my new tree, updated my vine wreathe and made some floral arrangements. So fun to create frugal handmade decorations that pull together a specific theme. This year’s decor, although not the traditional Christmas red and green, is still quite sparkle-tastic. The only drawback is that the lights do not twinkle on the pre-lit tree.

This tutorial gives a few tips on ornaments such as a handmade gift package with puffy bow, glass ornaments filled with coordinating ribbon bits, tree topper and wreathe. Separate videos will explain more in depth about the glass ornaments and wreathe updates.
